The 1st edition
of the Frontiers in T1D Cure call for consolidated researchers is now open.
Two grants of €100,000 to boost scientific progress toward a cure for type 1 diabetes.
At Fundación DiabetesCERO, we are launching the first international call Frontiers in T1D Cure 2025, an initiative aimed at funding innovative biomedical research projects focused on finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.
The call is aimed at consolidated researchers with innovative ideas and a translational approach.
A total of two €100,000 grants will be awarded for research projects lasting two years, which will be evaluated by a high-level international scientific committee.

OBJETIVES
With this call, we aim to:
- Promote preclinical and translational research focused on curing type 1 diabetes.
- Support established researchers with outstanding scientific careers.
- Accelerate the transfer of results to the clinical, hospital, or business fields.
- Promote talent and innovation in T1D research.
GRANTS
The call includes:
- Two grants of €100,000 each (in two phases of €50,000/year).
- Project duration: 24 months.
- Funds do not include indirect costs or expenses related to travel or conferences.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The call is aimed at: :
- Researchers with a PhD and consolidated scientific experience.
- Projects led from non-profit research institutions based in the European Community: universities, public or private research centers, hospitals, etc.
- Original proposals focused on curing type 1 diabetes from a biomedical approach.
- This call is not intended for projects aimed at the development of medical technologies, insulins, diagnostic methods, clinical studies, or educational activities.
KEY DATES
- Call opening: July 10, 2025.
- Deadline for submission of the Letter of Intent: August 25, 2025.
- Notification of shortlisted candidates: October 1, 2025.
- Deadline for full proposal submission: November 10, 2025.
- Results announcement: December 15, 2026.
- Start of funded projects: January 2026.

PHASE 1: Submission of Applications
Deadline: August 25, 2025.

- Institutional support letter.
- Standardized CV of the Principal Investigator.
- Summary of the research group.
- Letter of Intent (LoI) PDF, max. 8 pages (available on this page).
PHASE 2: For shortlisted candidates only
Deadline: November 15, 2025.
Required documentation:

- Full proposal (extended scientific report).
- Detailed work plan.
- Budget and justification.
- Translational approach and applicability.
All projects submitted within the established deadline will be evaluated by an Evaluation Committee composed of members of the Scientific Committee of Fundación DiabetesCERO and an independent panel of experts, through a peer review system. Each project will be assessed by three different reviewers, independently, using common evaluation templates and standards. The total score obtained based on the established criteria will determine the final ranking of the projects. The final decision will be published on the Foundation’s website and social media channels, and will be final and non-appealable. No individualized information will be provided, nor will any correspondence be maintained with non-selected candidates.
